The AI Act sorts systems into four tiers: prohibited (unacceptable-risk uses like social scoring), high-risk (Annex III use cases such as hiring, plus Annex I regulated products like medical devices; requiring risk management and human oversight), limited-risk (transparency duties), and minimal-risk (largely unregulated). General-purpose AI (GPAI) models face a separate track requiring documentation and training-data summaries. Article 50 adds transparency obligations — users must be told when they interact with AI, and AI-generated or deepfake content must be disclosed.
